01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

For a baked sweet potato, Imoyoshi’s Beni Haruka is roasted slowly, then matured once more in a two-stage process. Some customers who have tried it describe it as sweet and moist—a good choice when you want to enjoy the flavour of the sweet potato itself. The shop-exclusive Imonblanc, by contrast, is a sweet-potato Mont Blanc made with soft serve. A special paste is piped in front of you after you order, and you can choose a cup or a waffle cone. Diners have also praised the Imonblanc; it offers a different way to enjoy sweet potato from the baked version.

The daigaku-imo, a popular snack for eating as you stroll, pairs fluffy sweet potato with the shop’s special syrup and is served freshly fried. Choose baked sweet potato to savour the potato’s own flavour, or daigaku-imo for a classic sweet glazed treat. For taking home, there are also the finely cut Taisha Kenpi, described as combining sweetness with a touch of salt, and Imoyoshi cookies made with okara (soy pulp). This sweet-potato dessert shop offers options for an at-home snack or a small gift.

Imoyoshi manju are made by wrapping steamed sweet potato and gently sweetened filling in dough. They come in three varieties: white, yomogi (Japanese mugwort) and purple sweet potato. The combination of fluffy potato and chewy dough offers a change from baked or fried sweets. The Suminoe branch offers both dine-in and takeaway, so you can choose something to enjoy on the spot as well as a treat to take home.
